This year I promise to...
STAY CALM

PROMISES TO MYSELF

I start every new year by making a list of "new years promises". and then I keep giving promises through-out the year - some that I can keep, some that I cannot, but keep trying.

You see, I find it very hard to change old habits and acting patterns. And I think that making radical changes all at once also does not work for me.

So this year I try to make it step by step and maybe eventually I manage to pick up a few good habits and leave some bad ones behind. In a way I created this series to keep myself more motivated.

On this exhibition you can see a series of paintings, representing just a small part of my goals or purposes for this year. Some of them I have had for a long time and I am still struggling to succeed and some are very recent, but easier to fulfil.

Mirjam Siim was born and raised in Tallinn, Estonia. She has a degree from Tartu Art College, Estonia, which included a year at the University of Porto, Portugal. She currently resides in Porto, working as a freelancer illustrator/artist, shifting between a range of creative tasks and projects.

Mirjam Siim has exhibited work in Estonia, Russia, Portugal, USA and the UK.

She enjoys working in watercolor, because it is the medium that allows the most fluidity. Allowing for improvisation and intuition in her artistic process, Siim's works arrive naturally. She is often inspired by moments from her own life - conversations had, books read, or memories shared. Centering around female subjects, Siim's paintings are both playful and haunting, each suggesting a clear story and conveying a warmth of emotion.
